Bill Gates Says Internet Will Offer the Best Education in Five Years {Switched}
Aug 10th 2010 2:03PM Although it may be true that lectures will be available online,
watching a lecture and acting like a "sponge" is not the same as a
two-way interchange between professor and student, or having the
opportunity to discuss subjects with other students. College is
about so much more than taking up space in a classroom as a passive
participant. It is about living experiences, friendships, community,
internships, group projects, theatre, music, travel, sports, pep
rallies, dorm living and spring break trips. Sorry, but an "online"
or "virtual" degree will never provide the depth of learning and
experiences that an on-site college degree offers.
Live-Blogging the Tiger Woods Press Conference* {Fanhouse Backporch}
Feb 19th 2010 4:59PM I am glad that Tiger Woods held firm in not caving in to the prurient interests of the media and public in providing details of his daliances. I agree that the details are between him and his wife and he owes nobody an explanation. The public and press may WANT to know what happened, but nobody has a NEED to know nor a RIGHT to know.
In the Late Night Wars, Where Are the Women? {Inside TV Blog}
Jan 22nd 2010 5:29PM Aw, come on, people. Don't you get it? The big, MALE, NBC execs gear their late-night shows towards the white, MALE, audience, not realizing that it's WOMEN who are watching -- or NOT watching, as the case may be. Personally, I think Jay has gotten too nasty and raunchy and I've stopped watching him. I like Conan. He is more like Johnny Carson, who could be off-color and still be a gentleman. It's the moms who are up late and watching TV. We like comedy, we like celebs, and we like Ellen, Whoopi and Bonnie. We also like Pat Sajak, who had a talk show back a while ago that I thought was very good. Again, he can be funny and a gentleman at the same time. Wake up, NBC.
Teenager Falls Down Manhole While Texting and Walking {Switched}
Jul 15th 2009 2:49PM Let's see. Even if the cones had been up, since she wasn't paying attention to where she was going, she's going to have to prove that she would have seen the cones. I truly hope the utilities company does NOT settle this case, and puts the parents to their proof.
Hot Seat: Greatest Threat to Obama? {Politics Daily}
Apr 24th 2008 7:56AM Although the biggest threat to Obama are his own errors, that will only be the case if those errors, particularly past behavior, are pointed out. So far, the media and Hillary have not made the most out of his past behavior, including such things as: (1) voting "present" on 130 issues in Illinois for fear of taking any position; and (2) saying he never supported NAFTA when there are videos of him stating that he supported NAFTA. Obama has baggage but everyone seems hesitant to point them out for fear of being called racist. Obama is a fabulous speaker, there is no doubt about that. But I believe those charismatic speeches are a smoke-screen for practical inexperience. I don't want a President who has refused on 130 occasions to take a position. That fact alone prevents me from voting for Obama.
The six-day test drive story unleashes bad car sales memories {BloggingStocks}
Mar 10th 2008 4:16PM To the English teacher who thinks "my wife and I" was proper English, it was not. The sentence was the salesman "asked my wife and I". In that sentence, it should have read "asked my wife and me" -- "me" being the object of the verb "asked", as in "he asked me" not "he asked I."
Disney World bans children from swanky restaurant {Gadling}
Jan 14th 2008 11:21AM My husband and I have dined at Victoria & Albert's when we went to Disney on an adults-only weekend to celebrate my birthday. It is wonderful, but is a very small restaurant that only seats about 20 people. Thus, using "seating arrangements" to get children out of the way is not feasible. This is an adult restaurant that is for special adult occasions. We received personalized menus to keep, and I will treasure the memories of that evening always. This restaurant is not for appropriate for young children.
'Man vs. Wild' Host Is a Phony {AOL Video Blog}
Aug 18th 2007 9:48PM It would be pretty stupid of the producers to allow the star of the show to get killed showing others how to survive. Of course they have precautions and safety in place! Anyone with a brain larger than a pea recognizes that this is a demonstration and lesson in how to survive in an emergency. It is NOT a demonstration of how to take your life in your hands. He has cameramen and medical personnel available. In fact, in one episode, when it was feared that hypothermia was setting in, the medical personnel intervened and he was not allowed to continue the demonstration -- and this was all shown on the program. The only "phony" is the Videologist who seems to think he knows it all.
