How Are You Celebrating Earth Day? {Gadling}
Apr 21st 2012 12:10PM I don't celebrate Earth Day because it's another contrived day to promote an agenda of someone who wants to tell you how you should live your life. The environment is not fragile, it is resilient. If you want proof, take a look at recent pictures of Chernobyl. It's one of the worst man-made disasters of all time. We were told that nothing would live there for 50 years or more. Yet, we see that plants have taken over, trees are growing, and even wildlife is making it a home.
That doesn't negate the impact of the disaster, but it demonstrates that the environment is much more resilient than any Earth Day promoter would ever mention.
Times Square's Courtyard Marriott Accused of Bugging Your Internet {Gadling}
Apr 6th 2012 4:04PM Free service? Was he a paying guest in the hotel or was he using free WiFi in the lobby? If the former, then it wasn't "free" WiFi and he has the right to complain.
Rome Set To Close Off Trevi Fountain, Charge Admission {Gadling}
Apr 1st 2012 2:10PM I'm skeptical. So many people come there to capture an image of an iconic element of the city. That dome could be a visual disaster, or maybe it will add an interesting element. It's hard to be sure without seeing the plans, but I'm banking on visual disaster. They aren't trying to make it more beautiful. They're trying to keep people from seeing it. That's never a good thing for photography.
Airline Madness: People who recline their seats vs. People who get mad at people who recline their seats {Gadling}
Mar 13th 2012 4:58PM Whine all you want. I'm going to recline MY seat.
Travel photography: How to make a tripod that fits in your pocket {Gadling}
Nov 3rd 2011 2:33PM I cringe every time I read this tip and someone compares it to a tripod. While it's a useful trick to help minimize shake for some occasions, try taking a long exposure with a string and you'll realize it's no substitute for a tripod.
You want to shoot fireworks, slow down water, or do anything over 1/2 a second, spend some money and get a tripod.
Survey reveals hottest flight attendants - Virgin Atlantic grabs top spot {Gadling}
Feb 15th 2011 1:57PM I wonder how many people will think that's a new song in the video. I think I like the Nina Simone original version better.
Troubled baby gorilla at Disney World being treated like a kid {Gadling}
Jan 18th 2011 2:10PM I'm curious why she has a name. The guides at Animal Kingdom almost bristle when you ask about animal names. When I mentioned Lilly, the man just said, "they don't tell us about those things."
I guess that's not the Disney experience they want guests to have, but it seems that the people who work with the animals need a way to differentiate one from another.
Southwest Airlines new Rapid Rewards program: what it means for travelers {Gadling}
Jan 7th 2011 5:49PM You forgot to mention that SWA customers are almost unanimously pissed off at this change.
Why you shouldn't be concerned about airport x-rays and patdowns {Gadling}
Nov 17th 2010 2:28PM My home airport (MCO) now has these devices. Your claim that "most" of us won't be affected isn't really comforting to me. In fact, "most" of my common destinations in the USA have implemented these devices.
Tyner didn't "flip-out" at the San Diego airport, contrary to your claims here. The German protest was a year ago. If you're going to start out with blatant inaccuracies, why the hell should we trust anything else you have to say?
My guess is that you just want to be contrary, rather than go along with what many other journalists are reporting. Congratulations. It doesn't bother you. Doesn't mean that these new devices and pat-down techniques aren't offensive and wrong.
Travel photographs: which reality would you rather see? {Gadling}
Oct 28th 2010 2:23PM All photography is a lie. It's a frozen moment in time, which offers enough problems. When you deal with marketing photos, it's not surprising that they use better lighting, hire attractive models, carefully compose the frame so you only see what they want you to see, and clean up background details that may distract from the sales pitch.
You should hear the roar of laughter from food photographers about Dominos campaign to use "real" photographs to market its product, as Dominos was one of the WORST offenders for prepping its product to unbelievable states.
