People don't have jobs - they can't buy homes. You'd be better regulating the banks to force modifications that can keep people in their homes in the first place so they don't have to foreclose. But the big banks refuse to do this.

Sep 1st 2011 8:30PM We are dealing with this very thing with Chase. we have found it does no good to write your congressmen, senators, etc., not even media outlets. They can do NOTHING over the banks. The banks do their own thing and they are not governed by anyone else. They do not care that we lose jobs, get jobs making much less $$, etc., HUD even filled out paperwork incorrectly which caused us to be denied for help that we could have had on their end. This is exactly what we have been saying for months and months: "PR pointed out the obvious: "The banks are already doing principal reduction[s] but in the form of short sales. If the banks are willing to take a reduced amount for a short sale [this is when the current owner needs to get approval from their bank to sell the home for less than the amount due on the mortgage], then why not just reduce the mortgage via principal reduction and let people stay in their homes?""
