Man Arrested For Making Baby Smile {ParentDish}

Feb 10th 2009 9:10PM I did read the article, and it doesn't matter what kind of gun it was. Why would a complete stranger, a grown man, point ANY kind of gun at a baby? It's completely inappropriate, it doesn't matter what kind of gun it is. And by the way, not all guns that light up are designed for children, and they're ESPECIALLY not designed for babies.

Colorado Law Would Let Parents be More Involved in School {ParentDish}

Feb 9th 2009 6:57PM I am a white collar worker, and cannot get approved time off without several months notice. Additionally, if I take time off (such as sick days) or occurrences without notice for last minute conferences, etc., I get penalized, and it can lead to termination. I'm a single mother and cannot be without a job for obvious reasons.

I don't really have an opinion on this legislation yet, and I actually live in Colorado, but I think that your views of who deserves time off to deal with their children and school are very close minded, Amy. Not everyone has the flexibility to be involved in their kids' schools whenever they wish.

Man Arrested For Making Baby Smile {ParentDish}

Feb 9th 2009 3:36PM Umm what the HECK was he thinking to try to make a baby smile with a gun? If the mother doesn't know that it's fake, or didn't see the whole thing, of course she would be upset, and has every right to be. Why would a grown man try to use a toy gun to make a baby smile? Why would that be acceptable?

Airlines expected to appeal Passenger Bill of Rights today {Gadling}

Mar 5th 2008 1:39PM "So, given that embarrassment -- and it was really an industrywide embarrassment -- you would think that airlines would suck it up and swallow what is really a watered-down pill, if for no other reason than to win back passenger loyalty. Nope."

The problem is that airlines don't have to win passenger loyalty in a LOT of situations, and they know it. Especially in some markets, where there are very few choices. The airlines know that, in several cases, we need to fly. There simply aren't alternative methods of travel. Can you take a train from LAX to HNL? (Sorry, Honolulu) Sure you can take a boat, but consider the costs - not only monetarily but the cost in time spent getting there. Realistically, without spending days and days traveling, can you drive from New York to Texas? And with the gas prices being with they are, would you want to?

The airlines know that they have a product that we need. They are utterly arrogant and careless, and airline "customer service" has become a joke. Until someone steps in - a CEO who actually cares about customers, or the government, or someone else with a brilliant idea - we pretty much have no recourse regarding air travel when it comes to poor service. And being stuck on the tarmac for excessive amounts of time is not just poor service, it's potentially dangerous and careless.

And I am not the one with the brilliant ideas! :)

I see it every day... I'm a travel agent. ;) And believe it or not, I have had someone request a train from Raleigh, NC to Hawaii.

Happy Wednesday!

You've got to fight, for your right, to party (at Chuck E. Cheese) {Slashfood}

Mar 3rd 2008 4:20PM Yep they sure do serve alcohol! I don't know if it's a good or bad thing... after all, a glass of wine can definitely soothe the frazzled nerves. But then situations like this happen too. Although these situations could happen regardless of alcohol - just look at the little league and peewee football games and the parents' behavior there!

Costa Rica: No gypsies and hippies allowed {Gadling}

Oct 23rd 2007 12:22PM This is pretty common for a lot of countries... I'm a travel agent and at the bottom of the entry requirements that are from the countries' governments, there are several examples of "Hippy types not allowed." I swear, that's exactly what it says!

Food that makes your eyes well up {Slashfood}

Oct 18th 2007 11:19AM I definitely have food that reminds me of things... but what this post makes me think about the most, are the things that I'm showing my son now. He's three, and I'm VERY conscious of the traditions and foods that we have, and what they might mean to him when he's older. For instance, he's in preschool now, and on school days we have a bigger than normal weekday breakfast - eggs, toast, bacon or something else. (http://brookesummer.blogspot.com/2007/10/another-new-tradition-taking-shape.html) I love traditions, and I don't think it's an accident that food plays such a huge part in so many traditions!

Bologna and cheese and mustard sandwiches with my dad... caramel brownies with my mom... dried pears and homemade popsicles with my grandmother... the memories go on and on. :) I hope that my son has those types of memories too!

Sort of like Where on Earth?... but not quite {Gadling}

Sep 7th 2007 1:04AM Thank you so much for all of your help everyone!! I'm waiting for confirmation that Sao Paolo is correct, but it looks good! The only thing that we're confused on is one of the hints that was provided doesn't quite match. The hint says that February is the hottest month, while most of the information I've found says that January is the hottest month for Sao Paolo. As soon as I have a definite answer I will let you know!

Band on the Run: Trippin' in O'Hare Airport {Gadling}

Aug 21st 2007 8:38AM The largest airport when it comes to square feet is Denver International Airport - 53 square miles of land. Chicago O'Hare is the largest by passenger volume, although it ties with Atlanta fairly often, they seem to go back and forth for the #1 spot. Happy Tuesday!
