Mar 9th 2008 8:36PM The bible allows for telling an untruth if it is for the purpose of not offending another person. For instance in Genesis Sarah laments the fact that her Husband is too old to have relations and a son. When Abraham asks G-d to tell him what Sarah said the Almighty did not tell Abraham the entire truth (that Sarah said he was old) in order to spare his feelings and confidence. The cold hard truth can be manipulated to spare a person's feelings. If G-d can do it then you can do it.
