REPORT: President Obama to give states right to set own emissions/fuel economy standards {Autoblog}

Jan 26th 2009 9:24AM Steve - to expand on your comments, for the sake of consumers and automakers, the current administration would do the world a service if it sent the EPA and NTHSA to meet with Canadian, European and Japanese officials. The goal should be to have a standardized safety and emissions guidelines for the entire world.

Just think about how much more efficient most of the automakers could be if they were making only one line of cars that works no matter where it ends up.

Ford to make fewer Volvos, possibly in prep for sale {Autoblog}

May 20th 2008 12:04PM So if Ford sells off Volvo to anyone but Volvo AG, what happens with the logo, the rights to the names, and the parts supply? Aren't those all still being supplied by Volvo AG under license to Ford?

One thumb down for Kayak.com {Gadling}

Dec 17th 2007 8:16PM Jerry - I have to agree with you on this. While I find Kayak as a good place to start, and it works OK for finding rental car rates. However, I have often found the flights it pops up to be idiotic flight plans or not available. In the end, I usually end up using it to get the rate, and then (outside of Kayak) go to the airline/rental car site or call the airline/rental car.

Case in point, a flight from my home town to Halifax Canada. Leave at 1:30pm in the afternoon, fly to Chicago, have a 20 hour layover, arrive in Halifax at 2:00pm the next day, and this is where it gets good: Leave Halifax at 2:30pm (yes, 30 minutes after arrival), and then spend 25 hours to get back home.

This is what the web looked like in 1994 {Download Squad}

Jul 12th 2007 7:12PM I remember the internet like that (actually, in 1994 my browser of choice was LYNX, so think white on black with no pics) but I definitely don't remember anything loading as fast as it does in that video, but that may have to do with the vintage 386 IBM Microchannel machine with the ever popular 2400bps modem.

But, on the flip side, I do remember that time as being amazing due to the enormous amount of data instantly available to us in the new World Wide Web. By comparison, it is a pittance to what is now available though.

For the record, my email address in 1994 was something that had a bunch of suffixes like k12.us, and I liked Gopher.
