Feb 24th 2010 9:56PM maybe you should take a more careful look at who put this together before you jump on the ethnocentric bandwagon.
I think this is a wonderful WTF statement. Anime has had cross pollination with american pop culture from it's very beginning and I think it's wonderful that the otaku subculture in Japan has gained such incredible traction in the west.
That people from two massively different cultures and backgrounds can find common interest in a cultural art form that grew out of a means of expression in post WWII japan that borrowed heavily from western pop culture and now in turn acts as reservoir of ideas for a seemingly idea bankrupt hollywood is fantastic.
Kudos to Murakami and all involved and to those with a sense of humor.
