Helen Mirren Shows Skin for Esquire {Stylelist}
Jul 14th 2011 10:30AM I think she's absolutely amazing. I'd rather look like her at age 65 than those over-processed mannequins you see on the "Housewife" series. There comes a point when the bleached hair extensions, boob jobs, Botox and Donald-Duck lip implants look ridiculous. The age of looking like Grandma Moses after age 50 are over .... but I'll take looking "vibrant" and "youthful" over "Trying-to-look-younger-than-I-am" any day. Good for her!!!!!
Charlie Sheen's 'Two and a Half Men' Character Will Be Killed Off {PopEater}
Jun 28th 2011 12:20PM Chuck Lorre is an amazing writer. I'm not ready to say that the show is "no good" without Sheen. Frankly, I think John Cryer and the rest of the cast made the show. Sheen basically sat on the couch and delivered well-timed one-liners. Let's give it a chance. I'm not a big fan of Ashton Kutcher, but I'm looking forward to seeing what Lorre does with him.
Kristin Chenoweth Wants a Baby With or Without a Man {PopEater}
Jun 15th 2011 9:55PM Well, I dunno. My mother was married for 50 years and she was still basically a single mother, raising her kids alone and the main support of our family. Yeah .. having a husband is greatly over-rated and can indeed be a huge hinderance. Women are perfectly capable of caring for their children without a father figure. In many families, that's the case whether dad is living under the same roof or not.
Breast Milk Tied to Baby's Metabolism {ParentDish}
Jun 9th 2011 11:12AM Breast milk is only as healthy as the mother herself. My sister's kids were all breast fed ( she was a fanatic about it ) and they ALL have asthma, one has ADHD and all are overweight ( inherited from their father's family. ) I bottle-fed my son and he's now 30 years old, healthy as a horse and a marathon runner. Sorry, I'm not buying the "breast is better" rhetoric. Never did, never will.
Sun-Protective Clothing: A Guide {Stylelist}
Jun 8th 2011 4:27PM Bring back parasols as a fashion accessory. Now THERE's a solution to the heat AND protection from UV rays. I'm serious. I nearly fried on a recent trip to Disney World and SPF 30 did not save me. I was half-tempted to bring an umbrella one day. Women a century ago were smarter about protecting their skin from the sun than we are today.
Sun-Protective Clothing: A Guide {Stylelist}
Jun 8th 2011 4:24PM Bring back parasols as a fashion accessory. Now THERE'S a solution to the heat AND UV rays. Women were more sensible a century ago when it came to protecting their skin from the sun than they have been in recent years. I'm telling ya, I nearly fried like a piece of bacon on a recent trip to Disney World. SPF 30 did not save me from a burn. I was half tempted to bring an umbrella the next day.
Maria Shriver: 'This Is a Painful and Heartbreaking Time' {PopEater}
May 17th 2011 1:40PM I feel sorry for the child. None of this is his/her fault, yet for the rest of it's life, this child will be tagged as The Governator's little b**tard. He/she is the true victim of this mess. Schwarzenegger's other children will be enveloped by sympathy and the protection of Kennedy power. Maria Shriver is the "woman wronged" and there will be plenty of support for her. However, this little kid will forever be a target for blame, late-night TV hosts and ridicule. It would have been better if his mother had moved out of the household as soon as she decided to have the baby, kept her mouth shut and made financial support arrangements, quietly, for the child. It would have been the kinder thing to do for everyone concerned. I think somebody got greedy and decided to use this poor little kid as a bargaining chip. Either that, or it could be that Arnold actually cares about this child and doesn't give a rat's butt if the world knows he's the father. Who are we to say?
25 Women Who Rock Right Now {Spinner}
Mar 19th 2011 3:16PM I think Janelle Monae is amazing. This kid has managed to create her own style by pulling in classic soul, blues and even a little 40s Cab Calloway and Duke Ellington. Katy Perry, GaGa and their ilk depend on "shtick" to promote their careers, but Monae is the whole package. I love watching her perform.
Walmart Losing Business, Looks to Retool {WalletPop}
Feb 23rd 2011 10:53AM I don't care where products are made.
If the stuff you want to buy was made in the United States, you wouldn't be able to afford it and then you'd be complaining about THAT.
Or if factories started springing up in your backyard and your air/water became tainted, you'd be complaining about THAT.
Also, Americans won't do factory work. You know who would be doing the jobs that you say are being shipped overseas? ILLEGALS! This is what would be on the assembly lines, working for peanuts off the books.
No matter where you shop, be it Fifth Avenue in Manhattan or the dollar store down the street, EVERYTHING is made overseas. The only difference with Walmart is that the items they sell are basically affordable to everyone.
The reason Walmart has slow sales has nothing to do with stocking too many higher priced fashion items or organic foods.
PEOPLE ARE BROKE!!!
Americans are not purchasing anything other than neccessities. The unemployment "official" numbers are skewed. They do not take into account the "99ers" who have lost their unemployment benefits or the thousands of people who are about to join the ranks of "99ers" because their funds are also about to run out.
The numbers do not take into account those people who work menial part-time jobs because this is all they can get.
We have an entire generation of people who are 50+ years old who will very likely NEVER find gainful employment again. It's not a pretty picture.
Yeah, credit card use is up again because this is what people are resorting to in order to obtain basic needs. They aren't using their cards for jewels and designer handbags. They are using their cards at the grocery store, the pharmacy, the gas station and doctor's office.
Once, someone said "As General Motors goes, so goes the country." Well, guess what? As Walmart goes, so goes the country. Walmart's sales reports are a better indicator of economic times than the stock market.
Walmart's sales aren't down because they took "missteps" in the merchandise they stocked. PEOPLE ARE BROKE !
Lea Michele PETA Ad Targets Horse-Drawn Carriages {PopEater}
Jan 5th 2011 1:18PM Why doesn't this twit put her "celebrity" into helping PEOPLE ??? FYI: Those horses are kept in gorgeous A+++++ maintained stables in Central Park. They are pampered and given better care than show dogs. On the other hand, I recently volunteered at a group home for mentally disabled adults that was as stark and depressing as anything you can imagine. Maybe this "Glee" big-mouth should do a little research. It's a nice photo, though: The horse is better looking.
