Jul 24th 2010 1:19PM While the royal "stipend" was given and was probably considered to be quite a nice sum back in the days, it certainly wasn't enough to buy the expensive pieces the Duchess acquired in her "royal" lifetime. The Duke of Windsor became an English "Attache" for the British Government. While a intelligent, fashionable man his dislike for people of color while serving in the Bahamas became evident in a remark made that people of color were somehow "lesser" and on a trip to Australia started an uproar saying the Aborigines were basically horrid. He and the Duchess friendship with Adolf Hitler was well known and did not sit well with the Royal Family. Too the day of her death the Queen Mother Elizabeth blamed Wallis Simpson for the death of her husband as King George V was pushed into the throne on King Edward's abdication and that responsibility and the rigors there of took his life.

Jul 23rd 2010 1:34PM The ENGLISH people DID NOT pay for these, they were bought by the Duke of Windsor who had to make a living and did so by profitting on his name and status, as well as I'm sure having money from his family early on- and I'm not talking from English servitude. Edward's mother Queen Mary was a shrewd businesswoman and she bought and sold many jewelry items that she either kept or sold. In fact when the Romanov's were killed, it was Queen Mary who quietly bought up as much of the deceased families royal jewels as possible. Quite the slap from the wife of the man who refused to give his Russian cousins refuge when things became ugly in their country.

Jul 8th 2009 5:19PM I suffer from dilated cardiomyopathy and have for 9 years. Mine is not bad enough to rate a new heart at this time but, you all need to be aware of the fact that organs are scarce and even then unless you "made" the cut to be on the transplant list you wait until the end to get what you need.
My condolences to this man's family.

Feb 10th 2009 11:24AM Ray, get a life dear. Led Zeppelin are has beens. As for how many country acts they could outsell I could care less. I'm not a fan of either genre and I'm hardly an idiot.
In the 1970's I had the displeasure of having to deal with Led Zeppelin staying in a hotel that I worked at in Atlanta. All of them were rude and nasty. As an afterthought to their soon departure they ordered several sandwiches claiming it to be for friends and such in the penthouse . They took those items and put open faced under cushions, mattressses and pillows.
Robert Plant can be as talented as he likes, but his behavior 30 years ago and on the show to hog the stage blabbering shows me- nothing has changed in this man's world, his ego knows no bounds.
By the way Ray what part of the story did you miss that Allison Krauss has won 26 CAREER GRAMMY'S...tell me again what Led Zeppelin has won?

You want a multi grain doughnut go to a grocery store or make them yourself. Why can't companies just do what they have always done best? WHY- Are there Porsche SUV'S? Why does Subway sell salads?
WHY did Quik milk become "reduced fat". I'll never buy it again.
I can name one company that stands true to it's merchandise, customer service and value. Tiffany & Company. That's it. Sell and market what you are good at. That's it. Period.
