4 unique accommodations in Japan {Gadling}
Jan 16th 2012 9:23AM We stayed at a wonderful ryokan in Tamano, convenient for visiting the museums on Naoshima Island. The Uno Slope House, run by Max is a really authentic yet comfortable place to stay. Not "very expensive" like the article says, about ¥12,000, with a pancake breakast, Max speaks English, and is very happy to show you around town and explain Japanese culture. The thin mattresses on the floor are surprisingly comfortable, and there is a "western" living room so you don't experience culture shock. The place is a little hard to find, giving you exposure to authentic Japanese architecture and city planning, but Max will pick you up at the train station if you come by train. We came by car and had to ask directions and get a map to find the place. Go. It's worth the effort.
Viewpoint: Obama's Drop-in-the-Bucket Idea for Housing {AOL Real Estate}
Oct 25th 2011 2:18PM It's called compromise. You give the Republicans everything they want, and when it doesn't work, they call it a "Democrat Plan" and we vote for them.
San Francisco: A Town Without Kiddies? {ParentDish}
Jun 21st 2011 4:38PM Such an understanding of economics! San Francisco is so expensive because so many people want to live there. If nobody wanted to live there, there would be plenty of room and it would be cheaper.
Public School Bans Lunches from Home {Slashfood}
Apr 13th 2011 2:49PM No, you have to eat according to the food pyramid in order for it to be effective. Villification alone doesn't do anything.
Treatments for Autism: What Works, What Doesn't {ParentDish}
Apr 7th 2011 4:20PM I have asperger's myself, and what I could have used was charm school. Tell the kids they have a disorder, and that the school will teach them how they are expected to behave. They can handle it, and they can learn. Learning behavior for us is like learning a foreign language for a neurotypical.
Feeling Lonely? Mac & Cheese Might Be the Cure {Slashfood}
Mar 28th 2011 4:35PM An onion a day keeps everybody away. If you're lonely, you just have to stop eating onions.
Are These States to Blame for Stunting Job Growth? {AOL Jobs}
Mar 5th 2011 10:29AM There's a pattern here. Best states-Florida 12% Georgia 10.2% Mississippi 9.9% North Carolina 9.8% South Carolina 10.7%, Worst states Hawaii 6.4% Maine 7.3% Massachusetts 8.2% Montana 7.2% New York 8.2%. The pattern is, you make up a headline, use real facts, and come to the opposite conclusion from what the facts indicate. Then you repeat it ad nauseum, and it becomes true.
Madoff: Mets Owners 'Knew Nothing' of Ponzi Scheme {Fanhouse MLB Blog}
Feb 16th 2011 1:22PM Knowing about it, and being forced to return the "profits" are completely separate actions. Everyone who withdrew more than they deposited is being forced to return the excess. Whether or not Wilpon and Katz knew about the fraud (and I suspect they did not) they must return the profits just like any other victim.
Which Lightbulbs Save the Most Money? -- Savings Experiment {WalletPop}
Feb 10th 2011 9:23AM Where's the rest of the article? I'm almost all switched over to LEDs and I should never have to buy another bulb. The quality varies greatly, but there are good ones out there. I recommend the ones from Radio Shack. They give full brightness with minimal energy use.
America's Best Hot Dog is Crowned {Slashfood}
Feb 4th 2011 9:31AM All over the country hot dogs are called "Coney Islands," yet the real Coney Island hot dog from Nathan's is not included.
