LightSpeed binoculars transmit video and audio via Infrared {Engadget}

Dec 18th 2008 6:39PM Steve is correct.

This technology does not use RF. Instead it is a modified free space optics play, though not using lasers. It can't be detected even from the most advanced detectors because the light can be made to be out of the range of the detectors. It also employs frequency hopping and built in encryption. And, it sends data, so it can be used to send synchronous voice or data between two devices.

Sean Penn on Hugo Chavez: "He is clearly not a dictator by any international standard" {Gadling}

Dec 4th 2008 6:30PM What are we supposed to think..that Penn is a Patriot?
I wonder what the political prisoners in Cuba and Venezuela think about their "leaders." Do you think they think that they are dictators?

Hey Sean...please...move to one of these countries and save us from hearing your socialist babble.

Are Americans scared to travel abroad? {Gadling}

Oct 14th 2008 1:43PM As an American who lived in Asia for 8 years - and traveled extensively while there, my opinion is based on years of experience dealing with friends in the US who just didn't see themselves traveling overseas that easily.

Especially lately, only those with a big disposable income can afford to travel to Europe. And most of my friends don't think of traveling to Asia or Latin America for fun. I do understand that too...as Latin America is getting less and less safe and Asia is just too strange for most Americans to travel for fun.

Of course I disagree with the Asia part. It is cheaper, safer and as interesting as anywhere in the world. But it is a relatively new travel destination place for Americans. It just isn't on their radar screen.

One more thing. I've been back in the States for the past 5 years and haven't been back overseas. This is because my job hasn't taken me there and the financial crisis has stopped me from planning any big trips, either abroad or domestically.

Peter Weir To Direct Shadow Divers Movie {Divester}

Nov 30th 2006 5:31PM That is great news. I love Peter Weir. Other than the Year of Living Dangerously, Gallipoli is one of my favorites by him.

I listed to Shadow Divers on tape and loved it. This will undoubtedly be a great film, if not a great movie.

Free speech wins in Vermont middle school {ParentDish}

Sep 1st 2006 4:33PM The ACLU at it again.
To add to Thordora's comment - what if he had a pro Christian t-shirt? You just know that the ACLU would sue for that too. What a joke.
When in doubt about what school to send your children...go private.

Mar 5th 2006 3:11PM I also am glad I checked this blog. I made it over to the nearest CC at 1 minute past 10 and picked up a premium. There were 16 premiums for sale and about 10 core. I'm pretty stoked.
