Valve: We don't really worry about piracy {Joystiq}

Jul 21st 2009 8:26PM I bet the MPAA and RIAA squish those types of studies, as it would put some serious holes in their "ONE DOWNLOAD = ONE LOST SALE" argument in their lawsuits.

Valve: We don't really worry about piracy {Joystiq}

Jul 21st 2009 8:24PM I think THIS is the exact reason people don't pirate Valve games as much. They are a very respected development studio. Blizzard also carries this clout, and I'm sure wouldn't have anything to worry about (STILL not sure the real reason behind the no-LAN nonsense).

The real problem here is that Valve and other highly, highly respected studios are kind of in their ivory towers. People WANT to pay for their games. Other studios don't have that same kind of name recognition and I'm sure they suffer a much harder fate. Just look at Iron Lore.

Parents don't read Joystiq {Joystiq}

Jul 8th 2009 12:17PM This is exactly the point I was going to make, and I think it's one that will begin to solve itself as more gamers become parents. However, just like many parents let their 6 year olds watch R rated movies, the problem won't go away entirely. It will get a lot better, though.

Figure it out from there.

Burnout Paradise experts awarded with free Diamond P12 {Joystiq}

Jun 29th 2009 1:32AM So, what exactly are you going to do with this car if you unlock it by *doing everything*?

I've always been a little perplexed by these styles of unlockables. Make you work so hard in the game for something that is essentially useless (yes, I realize that comment is full of irony, but still)

Lost Winds dev: Reviewers are a problem with low Wii metacritic scores {Joystiq}

Jun 19th 2009 4:47PM I think it's all about 'consider your audience'. If you're reviewing a game, I'd expect the reviewer to consider how much fun the average Joystiq'r will have playing that game. If you're considering how much fun Grandma Jones will have (who probably doesn't give a shit about MetaCritic scores), then you've either lost your audience, or you're not writing for Joystiq.

Review it all, but continue to write it accordingly.

Jun 2nd 2009 5:20PM That's totally a metroid saving you from Motherbrain's blast. Is this a Super Metroid re-make or something?

Need for Speed: Shift doesn't skimp on the licensed cars {Joystiq}

May 29th 2009 3:10PM I don't mean to be a troll, but since when is '65+ cars' applaudable, or even news worthy?

Sure it outnumbers GRID, but Forza 2 had over 300 licensed cars. Gran Turismo 4 had well over 600. Calling 65+ "not skimping" or even "impressive" for a serious racing game is a joke.

Rumor: Zune HD is a 'digital entertainment handheld' that does ... everything {Joystiq}

May 15th 2009 1:24PM Sounds awesome, I agree. I'm sure they won't be able to put all the XBLA games on the thing though, I mean I can't see a portable playing something like RoboBlitz that's using an Unreal 3 Engine.

Maybe we'll see XBLA games being branded as 'Zune Certified'.
