Would you sterilize your teenage daughter? {ParentDish}
Feb 24th 2008 3:09AM Excuse me, but where is the sterilization for the teenage boys, hmmm? Let's not forget that it takes two to "tango." Everyone focuses on the girl because it's obvious that she's been fooling around if she's pregnant, but she didn't knock herself up. If you're going to require sterilization, sterilize the boys too. It's easier to reverse thier sterilization than it is to reverse a girl's, and it's a heck of a lot less invasive for males, too.
This whole idea is just WRONG no matter how you look at it. As a parent it's your responsibility to teach your children how to be responsible, but it's not your place to make decisions for them. It's not a parent's job to "control" their children, it's a parent's job to teach them as best as you can, and set a good example. It's about being active in your child's life as a guardian, role model, and teacher, not as a dictator.
And decisions like this are most certainly NOT the place of government or the public. If you're dumb enough to let your child drop your grandchild in your lap while he/she goes out to do exactly what he/she's been doing all along, it's SHAME ON YOU. Do NOT blame anyone other than you and the child who did it to you, and do NOT try to force other people's children to be sterilized because you don't think that even kids deserve the right to choose.
Delta passenger gets half of a seat {Gadling}
Feb 4th 2008 11:23PM Adam, it's not always about being PC, it's about not being cruel or discriminatory. I do agree that the folks that are that much overweight need to let the airlines know in advance or forefit their seats for a later flight. Just as we all need to be aware of other's rights/feelings, etc., so should they be aware of ours.
On that note, being derogatory toward ANYONE is wrong. It seems that it's illegal to rag on anyone due to race, color, religion, gender, age, etc., but it's perfectly ok to rag on the mentally ill or overweight folks. Some folks are overweight because of medications or health issues, and some - like me - are overweight because they just don't take care of themselves. It doesn't mean we're all big fat pigs that eat constantly, nor do we WANT to be overweight.
Also note the politeness of this post. Despite the absolutely RUDE and cruel things you said, I have not once been rude in return, no matter how many "F you's" are screaming in my mind. Smile and try not to be so nasty all the time. You'll feel better, guaranteed!
'Tubby Tax' on the way for obese travelers? {That's Fit}
Dec 11th 2007 1:18AM You are such a liar.
'Tubby Tax' on the way for obese travelers? {That's Fit}
Dec 11th 2007 1:07AM Darlin', here you are talking about being tolerant and then you rag on people with kids...how is that being tolerant.
It's not to say that there aren't people out there who let their kids get away with murder, but not all kids are like that. You all have to remember that people with young children have the right to travel too, for whatever reason. They have to bring extra luggage to keep their kids happy and quiet, babies soil themselves, and there isn't any place on the plane where parent's CAN change them. Have you looked at airplane bathrooms lately?!?!?! Also, let's not forget that Airplanes are PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. If you want a perfect flight, rent a private plane.
At Sean Taylor Funeral, Loud Applause For Saying Media 'Should Be Ashamed' {Fanhouse NFL Blog}
Dec 3rd 2007 10:40PM Excuse me, but what ever happened to having respcet for the dead and their families? And where is is written in law that being a celebrity means that you have no right to your privacy? To hell with the idea that it's ok to go off on his past, regardless of his family and friends' feelings. That is just heartless and disrespectful. It's all about money and attention, and that is just plain despicable. SHAME on the media that trashed this guy. He wasn't evil, he was just a stupid kid. How many of YOU led a perfect life, hmm?
Potent Quotables: The Gossip's Beth Ditto {Spinner}
Aug 18th 2007 12:29AM I love how all of you are so quick to jump on the "Let's rag on the fat girl" bandwagon. Sure it's not right for her to rag on Britney Spears, but to attack her because of her weight is no better. Britney has been acting like an idiot and she's destroyed her real beauty trying to be some sort of party goddess sex object. At least this girl isn't out ther drugging it up and doing everything she can to avoid being a responsible mother.
Shame on all of you for being so hateful to her because she's overweight. I'm willing to bet that hardly any of you are in peak condition either.

BILL COSBY Strikes Again, Addresses Black Community in New Book {Blackvoices Main}
Jul 9th 2007 10:28PM Although this trend is high in the Black community, it's also very prevalent among the hispanic and philipino communities, and is being picked up by some of the white kids too. When there is an entire culture of gangsta-ism working on our American youth, it becomes harder and harder to teach our kids right. Especially since their favorite performers are actually living the gangsta lifestyle they so eagerly promote, and being "martyred," by being sent to jail or dying, or even worse, getting away with their crimes simply because they have the money to tie up the courts and buy their way out of trouble. Then when parents call for them to be held responsible, they hide behind the constitution. Someone tell me, what is so appealing about spending your life angry, poor, afraid, and in danger 24 hours a day?

Is overfeeding kids child abuse? {ParentDish}
Jun 18th 2007 4:08PM You cannot simply make judgement calls like this on people and their children. I myself don't have problems with my kids being overweight. In fact, it's just the opposite. However I know that with obese children, it's not simply a matter of being over fed. My sister in law has always been considered obese, and she doesn't eat a lot, nor does she eat all the time. She as always been big, and now, at 26, she is finally discovering that there is a problem with her pituitary gland!
I can appreciate the desire to protect children, but have we forgotten how MOST of the country is obese? In our day and age, most families have both parents working, and in a lot of areas, commuting an hour or more betweeen work and home, which doesn't even include the time it takes to pick them up from school, daycare, etc. A lot of times, it's easier and faster to stop at McDonalds or Arby's or Pizza Hut on the way home. Not to mention it's CHEAPER than buying/making a real, home cooked meal. And when you're exhausted after work, you fairly frequently don't have the energy or even TIME to make a decent meal before it's time for them to go to bed! Everyone knows that fast food is the worst junk you can put in your body, but when that is all that's offered/available/affordable, what can you do?
