Gadling Gift Guide: Tech for Travel {Gadling}
Dec 8th 2011 12:58PM No love for the Macbook Air, the tiniest and lightest (and therefore most travel-friendly for one-bag-ers) of all?
10 unique modes of transportation around the world {Gadling}
Nov 11th 2011 5:46PM How about the motos in Iquitos, Peru? The somewhat large city is an Amazon port but has no roads connected to it. The motos, inspired by tuk-tuks (many ships come from Asia) are all pretty old but zip you across town on three wheels very cheaply.
Istanbul to get second Bosphorus with new canal project {Gadling}
Apr 28th 2011 9:47PM Unless... unless... they're freeing up space for more cruise ships! Oh, no!
Istanbul to get second Bosphorus with new canal project {Gadling}
Apr 28th 2011 9:45PM At first I was concerned, but it's a relief to see how far away the canal is, if it's even in Istanbul at all. It'll be nice to get some of the big ships out of the real strait.
The 10 greatest sports venues {Gadling}
Apr 4th 2011 12:11PM While Old Trafford is nice, Barcelona's Camp Nou is arguably the king of all football (soccer) stadiums. The sound inside there during a game is immense due to the crowd size (~99,000) and acoustics. And if that's not enough character for you, the 'token soccer field' on the list could have also been Maracana (Brazil) or Bombanera (Buenos Aires).
MSG itself is nothing special as far as basketball courts go, IMO. The most interesting thing about it is that it's an actual sports arena in Manhattan (nearly all other "NYC" teams play outside the city) and that it's situated on top of a major train station.
Where are all the travel guide apps for Android? {Gadling}
Mar 27th 2011 1:30AM Forget travel apps -- where are all of the apps for Android? Sure, a lot of the major players have Android versions of their iPhone apps, but there simply aren't any good Android-exclusive apps. A lot of this has to do with how fragmented Android is -- it's very difficult to make an app that consistently works on the huge variety of devices and software versions that people have.
A Kindle is a good way to fill the gap if you can't get an iPhone. Sure, it doesn't have any location awareness, but it can pack a lot of guidebooks, saved Wikitravel and other articles, etc.
(BTW, Android isn't gaining marketshare from iPhone, they're gaining it from Blackberry.)
Hotel Madness: Second round of pet peeves {Gadling}
Mar 21st 2011 12:14PM "No free breakfast" is a biggie for me. While I generally like to explore and eat at a different place for every meal, a lot of times it's far more convenient to eat at the hotel when you've got a train/plane to catch. Plus you get to run back up to your room and brush your teeth rather than walk around all day with that sweet syrup dissolving your enamel.
Expensive parking... who needs a car anyway? ;)
Hotel Madness: Resort fees vs. Early housekeeping visits {Gadling}
Mar 14th 2011 6:31PM I've never heard of, nor experienced, resort fees (other than the minibar). I guess I'm staying in the right hotels.
Daily Pampering: Private jets with JetSuite from $999 one-way {Gadling}
Jan 21st 2011 6:42PM I don't mean to come across as a shill, but I was interested in reading a little more and didn't see a link in the article, so here it is: http://www.jetsuiteair.com/
Win a Marmot Variant jacket with Polartec {Gadling}
Nov 15th 2010 10:31PM My favorite winter memory is planning to sled down a giant hill 20 times, but giving up after the second time I have to climb back up.
