Every ski resort in the U.S. on one list {Gadling}
Nov 23rd 2009 10:36AM Thanks for the reminder. I did mean to change the title this morning, but hadn't had the opportunity. I certainly know the list is for the U.S. only, but dashed off the title a bit too quickly when writing this post last night. And trust me, it isn't out of "American Ignorance".
Apologies to all my Canadian friends. Now go hit any one of your amazing ski resorts as well. ;)
Auspicious start to Antarctic tourist season {Gadling}
Nov 19th 2009 12:28PM LOL! Thanks for the correction! I'll let my parents know! ;)
Patriot Hills Antarctic base opens for 2009 season {Gadling}
Nov 14th 2009 12:36PM Yep! You sure can go. You just need to have enough cash, as the trips aren't cheap. I'm hoping to go sometime in the future though. :)
Antarctic dome to be decommissioned {Gadling}
Nov 14th 2009 12:35PM I believe the scraps will be brought back regardless, so they're going to be shipping it home either as scrap or as full pieces. It'll likely have the same environmental impact either way.
The cost in money and man power are too much though.
Racing on foot through the Sahara {Gadling}
Nov 9th 2009 2:16PM Hi Sam,
Sounds like you had a great race. I'm a big fan of 4 Deserts series and have been following along for some time. Can't wait for the Atacama! That is a place that is very high on my list of places to visit, and I'll definitely write something up on the event when it's underway, both here and on my Adventure Blog.
Keep up the great work!
Wild Texas: the critters of the Lone Star State {Gadling}
Nov 9th 2009 11:38AM Oh yes! How could I forget the hogs! They're all over the place too, and make tasty dinners for those big cats that I mentioned above. :)
Know the limitations of GPS when hiking {Gadling}
Nov 2nd 2009 11:09AM Agreed Nick, this is just the start. You can do a whole series on just how navigate with a compass and map, and how to add a GPS to that mix to increase safety and accuracy.
Heck! Come to think of it, many people don't even know how to use their GPS properly to begin with.
The Catch-22 of Adventure Travel and the Environment {Gadling}
Oct 15th 2009 11:01AM Thanks Katie! Glad you liked this post.
And you've hit the nail right on the head. We all want to visit these amazing places, and we don't always think about the effects we're having on those places. That is changing, but in some cases, a lot of damage has already been done, and I do think that when things aren't handled properly, we are definitely a big part of the problem.
Climate change bugs climbers on Everest {Gadling}
Oct 13th 2009 1:12PM It's not so much that the snow and ice are melting at the summit, although temperatures there do continue to rise, and the -15º F number is not always accurate any more. The real cause of the shrinking summit is due to less snow and ice falling on it, causing the cornice to shrink in size and become less solid.
Should a medical exam be required before a major trek? {Gadling}
Sep 30th 2009 3:30PM Well said Rick. I'm with you on that as well. I get them for myself because it's a good idea. Don't like being told that I have to though.
