"Staycation" is banished from the vocabulary, hopefully for good {WalletPop}

Jan 9th 2009 5:23PM "Ka-ching!" [not so subtle hint: story is actually an nline "infomercial" -- a great many here are...] Establishing a "political correctness" system of behavior, which is not protected by law or moral argument is a form of attempted manipulation for "mindshare" [market share], and an attempt to gain attention [free advertising], as if having a temper tantrum [for spending dollars]... to lead people to believe what is perhaps untrue.

Yes, many are having problems meeting life's basic needs, let alone living up to some pedant's opinion on vocabulary or how to spend precious income [to some]. Many towns and cities are going broke. Europe is overextended to 13% unemployment in many areas. So the need to be fiscally wise is no illusion.

Should such "brainwashing" to "spend, spend, spend" foment discontent for those who cannot achieve such unrealistic goals, it may produce frustration and depression, and a failure to appreciate the many gifts we might already have. It can even produce "mountains of debt" for people overextending credit to "keep up with the 'perception'" of happiness... and thus... "credit swaps" and "bailouts".

The "thought police" can now go home.

Ford Motor CEO warns of stagnant sales through 2009 {BloggingStocks}

Oct 2nd 2008 4:08PM Comparing some recent models, released as "quality" by Ford [like the Taurus], to other competitors, they have had ten times as many recalled failing parts, according to independent reviews. That "track record" over the last ten years makes people consider Ford's products as a less viable option in a tight economy as people hope to make better investments than the risky ones Wall Street typically has.

Science Reveals How to Cure Your Guy's Wandering Eye {Lemondrop}

Sep 26th 2008 6:04PM Sample size is 100 "Florida men"... as in any halfway decent research, it is appropriate to ask "Is that a representative sample"? Statistically "100 Florida men" out of approximately 281,421,906 people [a] , of whom 96,808,352
are males over 19 years old... the confidence interval is approximately 68.5(+/-)5% for a 50% response rate.

In general most peer-reviewed research seeks confidence intervals or 95+/-5% or higher to be considered *not* to be random chance. Maybe my calculations are off, so you can try them yourself. Sources for data and calculations are listed below.

Love the snow globe, but don't hand carry it on an airplane {Gadling}

Nov 19th 2007 10:36AM I wonder if soon people will be banned from boarding the aircraft, since people are potential terrorists, and they'll just charge extra to fly your luggage around.

At some point, all of this succombs to the physical, mathematical law of diminishing returns.

Have a safe trip, though.
Peace.

Cocaine is having a better year than the Dow Jones industrial average {BloggingStocks}

Oct 17th 2007 6:00PM To speak of all legalizing drugs in the same way, when they offer different risks, is a technique called "linkage".

Let's not leave out oxycodone, and the lawsuit about the manufacturer [dealer] that was sued for misrepresenting addiction risks.

Simple enough.

Cocaine is having a better year than the Dow Jones industrial average {BloggingStocks}

Oct 17th 2007 5:43PM btr,
I am sure you know that the concept of linkage is being used to connect all substances as if they were the same, to make a point, and we all know that an aspirin is also a drug. It is legal. So is strychnine, often used to "cut" heroin. BTW, oxycodone is legal, although the manufacturer [dealer] is being sued for understating its risk for abuse.

It does not take Sherlock Holmes to figure this one out. ;)

Dangerous affairs, indeed.

Peace.

and the Dow Jones performance is allegedly linked to the laundering of these funds through Uruguay.

There are many sources to confirm this information, including former LAPD Narcotics Officer Mike Ruppert.

I hope we all can think of a better solution other than the one proposed. There are solutions in between the extremes.

Peace.

Cell Phone Use Causes Hearing Loss, Study Finds {Switched}

Sep 20th 2007 5:59PM Was an analysis of of normal variance performed [ANOVA] to determine whether this is a population independent of other phone uses or other sounds sources, in other words is this a coincident population that experiences loud sound-compressed noises in general?
Just wondering...

Alicia Silverstone Gets Naked for a Cause {The Cooler}

Sep 19th 2007 10:25PM So if one is 'vegetarian' [in caps?] one is supposed to lie around naked all day, by the pool, with the waitstaff of the mansion [cleverly in background] looking on? C'mon this is a hoax ad, right?

I cannot sincerely believe this fairly represents all vegetarians whose initials are not A.S. nor hang around in the buff all day in their mansions with their aproned servants at ear's beckon. I'll bet some even have real jobs and do their own dishes!

C'mon, this 'ad' is kidding, yes?
