Halekulani means "House Befitting Heaven." This gem on Waikiki Beach has been making lists like this practically since its inception in 1917. For classical, historic island luxury, you can't do better than these five buildings with 453 rooms, three restaurants, and three cocktail lounges. The Polynesian Nonu treatment at the spa is supposed to be especially good.

Fun fact: The Lewers Lounge is named after Robert Lewers, who began the property as a residential hotel called Hau Tree in 1907. 06/07/09
