Resting high above the capital of Jodhpur, India, is Umaid Bhawan Palace. Made entirely of gold sandstone with an Art Deco interior, the royalty-inhabited property officially opened in 1943 and was converted into a hotel in 1977. Even today, the current Maharaja of Jodhpur, His Highness Maharaja Gaj Singh, and the royal family continue to live in the former Zenana, a private wing for the ladies of the royal household.
