Portsmouth, New Hampshire

Being the nation's third oldest city, Portsmouth has some bragging rights. This was even the signing place for Theodore Roosevelt's Portsmouth Peace Treaty which ended the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. But beyond an important political site, Portsmouth is also known for one of New England's most loved, historic hotels, the Wentworth by the Sea. Although historic, the seaport has a modern side, mixing jazz clubs and funky boutiques with the town's signature view of the tugs in the harbor on the Piscataqua River.
