Christ in the Hagia Sofia

Wall mosaic from the 6th century in the Hagia Sofia, Istanbul. This is one of the best examples of Byzantine gold mosaics. The Hagia Sofia was an Orthodox church before being turned into a mosque when the Ottoman Turks took the city in 1453. 09/07/09
