Handstand iPad case secures your device unlike anything else

handstand iPad case

If you like iPad accessories, then the number of available cases for your device will never let you down. Some cases are designed just to make your iPad look better, but others (like the one in this brief review) are made to protect and help make it easier to use your device on the road.

The Handstand case fits snugly around your iPad -- so far, nothing overly different from other cases on the market. Where the Handstand excels is a neat rotating hand grip on the back of the case. Simply slip your hand through the elastic strap, and you can hold your iPad with just one hand and rotate it in any angle you want. The rotating rear also doubles as a stand, allowing you to place your iPad on a flat surface and angle it up a couple of degrees for watching movies. The whole construction feels very solid, and even when you shake your arms around, your iPad won't budge.

The case is available for the original iPad right away ($49.95), and will be ready for the iPad 2 towards the beginning of March ($39.95). Cases for the the original are available in black and white, and iPad 2 Handstand cases come in black, white and pink. You'll find the (pre) purchase links at thehandstand.com.

Scosche SwitchBACK Surge g4 iPhone case adds battery power, app and kickstand

scosche switchback surge g4

Accessory maker Scosche just unveiled their newest iPhone 4 case -- the SwitchBACK Surge g4. The case features a whole bunch of handy features. The most important feature is a beefy 1800mAh battery pack, capable of boosting your phone back to near-full state.

A handy kickstand means you can sit back and watch some movies and its MicroUSB port allows for charging and syncing, without the need for the Apple dock cable. The rear of the case features an interchangeable back in silver or black.

As a first on any iPhone battery case, the SwitchBACK Surge g4 lets you know its charging status through LED lights and a free app. The app tells you the exact charge level, and how much talk/music time you have remaining.

The case fits the AT&T and Verizon iPhone 4 and retails for $79.99. It is available right now through Scosche.com.

Urbanears Bagis headphones: snaps together to prevent tangles

urbanears bagis headphones

With so many new headphones hitting the market each week, it takes some decent innovation to get any attention. Thankfully, Swedish headphone maker Urbanears understands a thing or two about making smart headphones, and they used those skills to develop their latest addition: the Bagis.

The headphones themselves grab your attention immediately because of their colors; the Bagis lineup is available in 18 different colors - and unlike most other headphones, the color in the Bagis is found on the entire product - from plug to cord to bud to earpiece and remote.

When not in use, you simply snap the two earpieces together, greatly reducing the change of nasty tangles. An all fabric cord also helps reduce "cord noise". Audio is fantastic -- especially since the Bagis only cost $30. You'll find the entire color lineup and links to purchase options at Urbanears.com.

Aluratek CINEPAL delivers sub $150 8" HD media player

ALURATEK Cinepal

With all the latest news from the world of tablet computers, you'll be happy to know that electronics manufacturers have not given up developing products that take one thing, and do it really well. The Aluratek CINEPAL is a good example of that.

Their 8" HD media player doesn't do Angry Birds, and it doesn't come with an App store -- but it will support a great array of video, music and photo file formats, including AVI, VOB, DAT, MPG, MPEG, Xvid, DivX, H.264, MKV, & RM / RMVB. The CINEPAL comes with 4GB of memory built in, and can be expanded using SD(HC) memory cards, USB flash drives and even USB hard drives.

Logitech Alert home monitoring now available for the Apple iPad

logitech alert for iPad

Last year, we reviewed the Logitech Alert HD home monitoring system. This easy to use home security system is of course perfect for people who rarely see their home, but still want to keep an eye on what is going on. At its launch, it came with an iPhone and Android app - and last week, Logitech added a fantastic iPad version of the remote software.

When installed on your iPad, you gain full screen HD access to all your cameras, and because the Alert system offers secure remote access, you'll be able to watch your home or other area anywhere in the world.

The app is free of charge (like the other Alert mobile apps) and is available from the App store. If you don't have a Logitech Alert system yet, check out the lineup of cameras and master kits at Logitech.com.

Ri turns your iPhone into a hotel room remote control

It doesn't matter how upscale your hotel is - the remote for your in-room TV is almost always a filthy non-responsive piece of junk. Research back in 2009 uncovered that most remotes are covered in sperm and urine - which is why I've traveled with a universal remote control for several years.

One new alternative may convince you to carry your own remote as well - assuming you travel with an iOS device. The Ri remote dongle plugs into your headphone jack, and when combined with its free app, turns your device into a fully functional remote control.

The software has a database of hundreds of devices, which means you'll only need to do a quick setup of the hotel TV, and be able to leave the room remote alone.

Ri retails for $29.99 and is available directly from its developer.

Hyatt Summerfield Suites looking for Caribbean inspired grill recipes

Following the success of their first summer grilling social, Hyatt's Summerfield Suites are once again preparing for a summer of free grilling events at their hotels.

The theme for this year is "Caribbean Cuisine", which means inspiration from ingredients like coconut, plantains and black beans.

Best of all, the chain is looking to its guests for some recipe ideas, and will reward the best one with free stays and an Apple iPad.

So, if you have something worthy of the grill that you'd like to share with Summerfield Suites, head on over to their contest page and submit your entry. If all works out, you could be the lucky owner of an iPad, and hold the honor of seeing your recipe served at Summerfield Suites hotels all around the nation. Once the grilling season starts, you'll find the free grilling socials Monday through Thursday evenings.

Support the Japanese relief efforts with "Quakebook"

QuakebookWhen Japan was hit by a magnitude 8 earthquake on March 11, 2011 at 2:46PM, nobody expected it to turn into the most devastating natural disaster to ever hit the country.

Even though a lot of the news revolves around the damaged nuclear reactors, the impact on human life is still immense, and thousands of people are not able to return to their homes, assuming their homes were not washed away in the massive tsunami.

Immediately after the quake, a team of writers put something amazing in motion -- a Twitter sourced book created in under two weeks. The book will launch in Amazon Kindle format on April 15, and print versions will be available after that. All revenues from the book will go to the Japan Red Cross.

Reading some of the excerpts gives an idea of the situation, on a much more personal level that you get from reading the news. The book also contains a piece by Yoko Ono and work by authors William Gibson, Barry Eisler and Jake Adelstein

Thanks to the Kindle format, you'll be able to read the book on your Amazon Kindle, or any device with the Kindle reader application (PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, Android and Windows Phone). The book is available for pre-order, and if you order now, it'll be automatically delivered as soon as it is released on the 15th.
