If the shower cap fits, use it (for your shoes) - Packing tip
Unless you're my grandmother (Hi, Grandma!!), you probably don't use the shower cap provided at some hotels for anything whatsoever. But, that little plastic cap with the elastic ring can be very useful when packing your bags.Shoes are often cumbersome and tend to get in the way when trying to maximize your luggage. Take the shower cap from your hotel room (or one you've previously stolen from a hotel room) and open it up. Put your shoes inside it and the elastic will hold them together, making them much easier to handle and pack/unpack.
To tip or not to tip - International travel tip
Just because you might drop a few bucks on the table after eating dinner in the States doesn't mean that's appropriate behavior everywhere. It's best to check local customs before deciding to do the same in another country. Some countries, such as New Zealand, Australia and Japan, don't customarily tip and the result can be confusion for your servers. In other countries, such as France, the tip is added to the bill automatically.
Take the time and check online or ask locally if tips are customary before making the gesture.
Hit the bookstore, buy a local author - Souvenir tip
Hit up a local bookstore for a good, unique souvenir. Many self-published authors sell their books through the local storefront and many of those books are based in the area in which they live. The souvenir is not only unique, but it's entertaining and lacks the gaudiness that many souvenirs display.
Plus, you may get smarter about your destination, which makes any trip more satisfying.
