Summiting Mexico's Highest Peak

I'll travel wherever and whenever as much as the next nomad. But over the last few years I've been really interested in combining this passion for travel with video work that can help bring an issue to either a wider audience or to broaden my own travel experiences. To this end, I've worked in places like the northeast of Nicaragua, Uganda, and post-earthquake Haiti.

My most recent adventure brought me to the border of Puebla and Veracruz states in Mexico in order to attempt to summit the third highest peak (18,500 feet) in North America and the highest peak in Mexico, the stratovolcanic Pico de Orizaba.

This wasn't just any ordinary climb. In addition to the altitude, there was also a cause. Mountaineering pro Jake Norton and the Challenge 21 team are attempting to climb the 21 highest peaks of the world, all in the name of clean water and sanitation for the world's neediest. It's one of the most pressing issues of our time. Wanting to push myself, and to do so for a good cause, I signed up to join Jake in Mexico. This short film is the story. To learn more about Challenge 21, to contribute, or to also join the team on a climb, please check them out here: challenge21.com.

How To Put On Foul Weather Gear

People sometimes think that sailing is a sport centered upon warm sunny days and graceful lines across open water. Competitive sailing is a bit different. If it rains, you sail through the storm. If you need to tack in the middle of the night, you get up, grab a handle and start grinding. And if the salt water is 34 degrees and the swells are higher than your boat – well, you deal with it.

Foul weather gear is what sailors use to stay (mostly) dry during harsh conditions on the water. At the Volvo Ocean Race's stopover in Miami this spring, our friends at Camper gave us a chance to try on some of the team's gear. As usual, it didn't go as planned.

Travel Like A Boss: Onboard The Fastest Monohull Sailing Boats In The World

Gadling Labs was on assignment in Miami last month, checking in on the progress of The Volvo Ocean Race. Things were going well for our old friends on Team Abu Dhabi, who finished in first place in the in-port race and continued on to win leg seven in the marathon race around the world.

In episode two of "Travel Like a Boss" we wander through Azzam, Abu Dhabi's VO70 ocean racer for a look under the hood of one of the fastest monohull racing boats in the world. Take a look above.

Travel Like a Boss: Onboard Singapore Airlines new A380 out of JFK

Casting away most comforts afforded a modern traveler, Gadling Labs typically ventures out as cost-effective as possible; be it on a boat, the back of a pickup truck or the occasional Mongolian yak. But when Singapore Airlines announced they were bringing the A380 to the United States, we couldn't resist. Packing our bags for JFK we checked in on the new aircraft which started service among Singapore, New York and Frankfurt late last month. Check out our exclusive tour below.
