I have lived here for almost 16 years and in regards to situations like this its a way of life down here ticos love to chat it happens every where in the banks at the markets it something you have to be prepared for its gotten better in the banks it used to take 1 or 2 hours to make a transaction now its down to 30 min or so alot of times the problem with lines are that one person will be buying for 5 or 6 people and they do it in seperate transactions so they keep the money straight. when it comes to catching the ferry if it looks close send a scout to let the ticket taker know you are coming and have them wait there for you a little propina or tip wont hurt they wont leave until the lady at the booth lets them know its time its just the way things go down here. I dont think you would have held your cool if it was dec 31 and you were standing in line to pay the car tax due before the first it even gets ugly with the ticos. planning is what its all about they have people who make their living standing in line for people sometimes its worth a few bucks to have someone that knows the person at the window it definitley takes the mental frustration out of the equation.
