That's an interesting point you make about how single females are not viewed as threatening. I've definitely found that in cultures where there's a big social divide (or social segregation) between men and women, solo female travelers are at an advantage because they can move more freely between the two groups. You are naturally welcome to socialize with the women, but men will accept you into their conversations and circles because although you are female, you're a foreigner, so it's viewed as acceptable.
