As a Torontonian, I agree that the more interesting neighbourhoods exist outside of the "I." As someone who just moved to Corktown bordering Riverside, I love this neighbourhood for the eclectic and still inexpensive restaurants, shops and bakeries as well as the Old Toronto architecture visible in the British-style row housing on many streets. You don't get these restaurants in the "I" path since the rents are too expensive. Parkdale is another neighbourhood experiencing enormous change and where you'll also find innovative and inexpensive restaurants.
