I am in the process of writing a book about the Costa Concordia disaster and its effects on the people of Giglio Island. They are truly some of the forgotten heroes of this story. Not only did they save the lives of over 4,200 people that night, but they opened their homes, gave away their belongings, never asked for anything in return, and they still are forced to suffer with the ship's presence. I have spent time with these people in their homes and at their dinner tables. I am looking forward to bringing light to an entire different side to this horrible tragedy. I appreciate you reporting on the story.

Thank you, Candy. It really is a wonderful project. I think people will be surprised by how much the Gigliese basically ran the rescue operation and how much it still impacts them today.
