One thing to add - get a massage in each new town. The sense of touch is badly neglected these days, and the lack of touch is one of the big secrets of loneliness. Touch is crucial to our health - we are still animals - and the fact that we have lost 'permission' to touch each other in simple affection (hand on arm, hug, etc) is at the root of the feelings of being unconnected - literally out of touch!
When I was in France I used to ask the local pharmacy (esp if they sell healthy stuff) about local masseurs and bodyworkers. It was a different experience each time, but I felt really good afterwards, all zingy, and thoroughly plugged into life.
