12 Of The World's Most Beautiful Caves
For adventure-travel enthusiasts, visiting caves is a great way to satiate one's appetite for exploring the lesser-traversed world out of the sun's light. Immersed in bizarre natural formations, you'll see rainbow colored rock compositions, jagged stalagmites, rugged stalactite, azure waters and scenery that will make you feel like you're on another planet. Everything goes silent as the air gets cooler, and the only sound you hear is the trickle of water dripping from the uneven cavern roof. These places are sometimes peaceful, other times eerie, but almost always alluring.Whether you want to get out and explore a cave for yourself or feel better curbing your curiosity from your computer chair, you can get a visual idea of some of the world's most beautiful caves by checking out the gallery below.

I visited Luray cavern in Virginia. It is a very nice cave to visit. You will be surprised.

Lisse we live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We just took our grandchildren to Luray on Aug.23rd. They are from Va Beach area and had never been in the caverns before. Thoroughly enjoyed them. We have a lot of caverns in this area, Endless , Grand Shenandoah and many more . All have their own unique scenery underground.

What about Desoto Caverns in Childersburg, AL? It's just as nice and well preserved as the rest of these.

It is lovely Ben! You must be in Bama.... I live in Birmingham and I think we're lucky to have such a wonderful place nearby to enjoy. It definitely is breathtaking.

There is actually a race going on among explorers to find the deepest cave in the world -- the Mount Everest of caves, if you will:

As a long-time spelunker, I have seen underground wonders that most people will never see. Each cave is different - some offer caverns of incredible beauty; others offer seemingly impossible challenges. I love both.

Can't believe Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, the longest cave system in the world, was left out. The sights there are just as beautiful as most of these pictures.

I, too, was surprised Mammoth Cave in KY was omitted. It's so beautiful and specxtacular and very popular Apparently someone wasn't thinking.

I was somewhat surprised to not find Jeita Grotto as I surfed the photos since it was in the running for one of the marvels of the modern world back in 2009. It's outside Beirut, Lebanon and just beautiful!
