Its always good to check the historical price of a ticket on sites like Kayak so you can see what people are paying for your flight. I would start this process 3-4 months in advance. However, time is a precious commodity. Sometimes, the effort it takes to find a cheap ticket isn't worth the couple dollars you save. Also, the cheapest ticket also comes with a lot of restrictions in most cases. So, sometimes it pays to spend a little extra to have more peace of mind. If you work hard and pay your bills on time you deserve to spoil yourself every now and then.

I have lived in Charlotte for 15 years and fly to Philadelphia once a month.US Air hub to hub onw of the most expensive flights regardless of time or day unless hey advertise an e-savor fare...the only way to beat the system I found is to fly one way to Baltimore or Boston with a stop in Philadelphia...I book my return trip as a one way from Philadelphia to Raliegh or Orlando with a stop in Charlotte. it makes me so mad that Overflying is cheaper than a direct flight and they want to complain about gas prices...for example....if you fly round trip from Philadelphia to Charlotte you could pay upwards of 500...one way from Charlotte to Philadelphia or vice versa upwards of 250...however Charlotte to Baltimore with a stop in Phildelphia ranges 99-160 and Philadelphia to Raliegh with a stop in Charlotte ranges 99-160...ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you say racquet!!!!!!
