What a poignant and important post. Sustainable travel and cultural integrity is certainly something to be considered, but do we expect these cultures to remain in the pre-Columbian era for the benefit of our touristic experience?
As world travelers, we need to make sure that our travel is a positive experience for the locales we experience. We need to do our research, and make sure we book our tours (wherever in the world they may be) with companies that positively impact these communities.
Lake Titicaca is a unique situation, as part of the attraction is that the Uro still live on these islands, somewhat removed from most modernity. But I can't stop thinking about those children. What do the rest of their lives look like? I want to hear the end of the story.
