Two Men Detained At US Border For Carrying Chocolate Eggs
In the past year, there have been stories of travelers getting in trouble for painting their nails on flights, telling jokes on Twitter and traveling with baked goods. The most recent scandal in the world of surprising travel crimes, involves two men trying to cross the border from Canada to the United States with chocolate eggs.During a trip to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Brandon Loo and Christopher Sweeney decided they wanted to bring treats back home to friends and family in Seattle, Washington. They decided on Kinder Eggs, chocolate eggs containing small toys inside. Unfortunately, the surprises ended up getting the men detained at the border.
According to CBC News, because children can choke on the toys inside the eggs, they are illegal to bring into the U.S. Moreover, travelers who decide to attempt to bring them into the country could incur a hefty fine. In 2011, there were over 60,000 Kinder Eggs seized from travelers' luggage and international mail shipments.
In the end, the men were only detained for a few hours, getting off with a simple warning.

The US customs agents on the Canadian border can be total A-holes!!
Taylor Kord Jul 24th 2012 3:39PM
Well we know at least one boarder is keeping us safe.
Heather Jul 24th 2012 3:42PM
OOOOOH so scary! If these are so horrible why don't we hear about thousands of children in other countries dying from these terrifying death traps?
waagtod Jul 24th 2012 3:45PM
So what if they found the eggs? At least they didn't find the condoms full of heroin up his bum, so he was OK with it.

It's not the border agents who are at fault really....it's the U.S. This candy is illegal here (although many, many other countries are enjoying it very much!). So the border patrol is forced to confiscate this candy. Machine guns, fine.. Chocolate eggs, not allowed. Ridiculous in my opinion. And no, hundreds of children in other countries are not dying from eating these.

OK, so confiscate, not detain. Ridiculous over-reaction.
Becky Jul 24th 2012 7:50PM
I agree. The whole "this candy is illegal in the USA" thing is beyond ridiculous!

Machine guns are not fine to bring into the U.S.. Please try and stay accurate and relevant.

We used to purchase Kinder Eggs for our sons while we were stationed in Germany. The chocolate wasn't all that great, but it was fun finding a treasure inside. Germans used to hand out all kinds of toys at their McDonald's. They love kids. Americans are so paranoid when it comes to kids, because some parents can't tell what their kids should and shouldn't have.
When our youngest son was a toddler, we were told that he could have peas to eat, but instead stuck them up his nose. Doctors had to use cocaine twice to numb his nose to remove peas from both nostrils. The minute we stopped paying attention - thinking that it was resulting in him eating his peas - he stuck them up his nose instead.

They could tear down the Berlin Wall, tear down theUS/Canada Border! No need for it! Save millions on all these boder cops and have one North America perimeter customs entry.

Having been born in Germany, I remember these eggs clearly. Raised with a father in the military, we moved to the U.S and my German grandparents would come down bringing cases of these eggs. My brother, sister, and I loved them with a passion. I was so sad to hear that they were made illegal to bring into the U.S.
Mike Jul 24th 2012 4:23PM
A two hour detention for this? That's a waste, advise them, confiscate or let them eat the eggs and let them go on their merry way.

Also make sure to leave your dignity behind the border.

Border guards are really on the job saving us from those dangerous candy eggs that could wipe out a city in seconds. Big Sis says our borders are safer than they have ever been and she is correct when it comes to candy eggs, bloody dangerous they are ! Never mind the estimated 30 MILLION illegals in the USA with more pouring over daily, have many mean us harm is anyones guess but fearless leader does not wanted them deported. Even his drunken illegal Uncle Omar is still plus a Aunt who was make a US citizen by a liberal Judge. Not to worry, we are safe from any terrorist candy eggs !

I'm glad you see the connection between chocolate eggs, immigration, and Obama. Did you develop that ability by watching the Fox Network?
Rhygin Jul 24th 2012 5:55PM
2 hours, did it take that long to get the eggs out of their grasp? Thats the crazy things customs does, protecting us from felons like these. WTF!
Dave Jul 24th 2012 4:41PM
Totally amused by all the posts mocking or deriding the Agents. The problem is the U.S. law banning these items. These Agents don't get to pick and choose the government regulations they are sworn to enforce.

I know, only doing their job. The only thing is, just like the rest of the police, they will do whatever they are told, just for the money. That means anything. No decent man would do what they do. If anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about you are blind or stupid.
jon parmer Jul 24th 2012 4:46PM
they must be training to get jobs with the tsa!
chrislis Jul 24th 2012 4:45PM
and what if I don't have kids ? I like these eggs! What a stupid paranoid country we are, just cause some parents are just to lazy to supervised or teach their children whats good and whats bad we can't have certain foods, ridiculous! no wonder the world laughs at us
