Forgive my ignorance but that sure looks like a residential street to me, wouldn't an airport have been a better place to land?, you must have taken off from an airport. Just guessing but you went off course and were too far away to return to the airport?

Its a glider and he ran out of air life and had to come down. There is no engine to give him power, he was on his way down and no way to get back up. Did you not know that it was a glider? He had been flying for awhile and lost the wind and risers so he had to come down.
