Barcelona Airport's Cleaning Crew Protests ... By Throwing Trash
Protesting pay cuts, workers at Barcelona's El Prat airport retaliated using their most powerful weapon – trash. Cleaning crew members, as part of a two-day protest that began May 29, threw piles of paper all over the airport grounds coating ticket counters, baggage belts and more with trash.
The crew members work for a company that has a contract with the airport and are protesting cuts in both pay and benefits. The company, AENA, announced 1.3 million euro budget cuts.

Kassie, Some people have to do what they need to do to get want they deserve from billion dollar corporations that want to give slave salaries. Its bad enough they have to pick up others peoples trash and the ones that don't even use the trash but just throw things on the ground to so its nice and pretty for YOU and me. But now they feel like they are being treated like trash. I am sure if you were one of them you would be right there with them.

I would give them 10 minutes to start cleaning it up or fire them all. There are people that are willing to work that would be happy to have their job. With the mess Europe is in they should be happy to have a job at all.

Didn't have to buy into the Republican Psyche of Fear. Been a card carrying Rep for over 40 years. Have probably done more charity work and donated more money to charity while being an executive and single mother than you will ever do/make. Owned my own business, gave full medical benefits to my employees with regular salary increases but fired them when they didn't do the job. That is what this country is all about. Hard work and giving back. Unions had a place in this country once but just further the "entitlement mentality" now.

Excellent point and Lizzy might want to do some research rather than just throwing stuff out there like losing jobs for instance. I have not heard of any of those union workers losing their jobs and I believe Gov. Walker has created or at least saved some jobs in WI.

As we were departing upon entering mostly torn up newspaper and some empty plastic bottles greeted us. The strikers moved through only the upper terminal making some noise, blowing whistles and chanting. It was great to see folks exercising their freedoms in a really great country. Hope Spain can work it's way out of it's fiscal difficulties soon.

europeans are self absorbed money/status obsessive people anyway so is it any surprise they would react this way? Europe for too long have been living an unrealistic lifestyle in an attempt to "keep up appearances", Now the eu economy is weak and people are afraid they will lose their past privileges such as holiday homes, 2-3 cars per family, extra holidays, well boohoo. This type of action is pathetic and their actions will ultimately come back to them in some shape or form and will ultimately cost the economy and then their own and other peoples jobs in the process. How about stop being prude and start showing your worth by working hard and showing strength,determination and togetherness in these tough times instead of complaining or bailing out at any opportunity, Nobody owes you anything. I am british and this is what makes britain a great place, I don't even class Britain as europe ( most of europe don't either ) but what sets us apart from the rest of europe ( except london city ) is the grit and resilience from even the lowest paid worker to keep things in order and work together through the tough times.

Very gentle reactions!! If this happened in Greece, everybody would say burn down the bloody country of anarchists and strikers. Now that is Spain I didnt even see that in international head lines! Why is it that when this happens in Greece it is described as chaos and when it happens elsewhere it is reasonable protests???

I can't believe anyone but union employees would support union employees in ANY instance. PEOPLE vote these MOOCHERS out because it is in the public sector also. NO employee can pay a worker MORE than they are worth in ANY instance. IF YOU ARE WORTH WHAT YOU ARE BEING paid YOU DON'T need a union. Unions are for the people that want to be paid more and get more benefits than the average worker.. Why does the private sector put up with this nonsense??? ...I KNOW BECAUSE I WAS A MEMBER OF THE AFLCIO UNION.
