Indeed, Life can be tough but the benefits far out weigh the lack of the so call real life you had while at home in the US. In general, oversees assignments can be a great opportunity to see the other side of the world we take much for granted and the chance to do lots of things you never dream possible. On the flip side, if you never had a love for people in general this life can be devastating, as a spouse. Some diplomats are too mean and unfriendly, Particularly those who are intrusted with decision making. The level of distrust folks have of these individuals is alarming. Some diplomats feel that when they are given the authority to represent their respective countries, particularly Americans who - somehow feel they have the right to do as they please. This has led to the kind of unfriendly treatment. I recall while attach to an outfit as this there were genuine consideration and respect for diplomacy than I see within this service today. Yes, the majority that enter this field generally speaking, are selfish and when they return home - they are miserable and find it difficult to adjust back to their original lifestyle. In other words, the real life world. No longer can take advantage of poor folks and make themselves to be people they are not. The other aspect of this service is more self serving and as long as their goals are advance that's all that matter. More often than not, there is no God in this environment and the level of betrayal and corruption is way beyond words. Proverbs 29 is a wonderful passage of scripture which should greatly benefit those in authority, giving them much instruction regarding dealing with those they have been given charged with overseeing.
