Route 1 is awesome. Back in 1990 we were going to my nieces wedding in Redwood City, CA (near San Fransisco). We drove from New Jersey to San Diego and took Route 1 to Carmel. Just loved it. We started driving on our 2 week vacations shortly after we were married in 1987 (2nd time for both of us). It took us 11 years to drive through every State in the US including Alaska (that took 3 weeks) and 3 islands on Hawaii. We enjoyed every minute and would do it again if we could.
