As someone who was born in New England, please don't be hard on New Englanders. They are not like midwesterners, but once you you get to know them, they are the best people. It is a beautiful part of the the USA. A few other routes that you don't want to miss are Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire, Route 100 in Vermont, and never forget Old Cape Cod. Tony Bennett might have left his heart in San Fransico ( I've been there) but I left mine in New England.
