I just looked up the information myself but needed have bothered because Mark Vassallo got there first. The information given is correct.
I enjoyed your story and it was lovely to see that you were enraptured by some of the little niceties that do make Malta.
As for the politics of the 80s, that people were killed on the streets during demonstrations is somewhat of an exaggeration. Beaten up, bullied, yes - and that democracy and the rule of law was at its lowest if not virtually non-existent - yes. That a couple of people were outright murdered is also true, whilst others died out of shock of being dispossessed of their belongings.
Hopefully that is all part of our past, and today's Malta is a pleasant place to live in. Not perfect (where is?) but a wonderful part of the world nonetheless.
