I remember wondering the same thing as we stood, looking at the ridiculous lunch time crowd gathered outside. We had passed so many places on the way up there from the dock, we could see at least half a dozen pizzerias just from where we stood ... was this place really worth the 3hr wait? (Much better idea to get there early, unfortunately we had issues at our accommodation that delayed our plans by a couple of hours). Surely one of the other places would be just fine. BUT oh my goodness, we had two mouthwateringly delicious pizzas and in the end it was definitely worth the wait. The fact that so many of the people waiting with us were locals spoke volumes.
P.S. I'm curious to know what your wife thought of Pompeii, we were quite disappointed ...
