I live about 20 minutes from Baltimore and visit the Inner Harbor quite often, especially during the summer. It is lovely there. As for crime, I have never had any unpleasant experiences. As long as you stay on the beaten path, you are unlikely to have any problems.
This summer will see the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. The harbor will have tall ships and battle re-enactments. Be sure to see the Baltimore Orioles play at Camden Yards. Don't miss the Walters Art Gallery and the Baltimore Museum of Art,both of which have free admission.
