Cockpit view of night landing in Los Angeles
Landing in any major city at night can be a thrill. The lights down below are enticing and the energy of a city after dark gets your pulse racing. Or, you know, maybe you're just exhausted and ready to collapse. This video of a plane coming in for a landing at LAX offers amazing views of the many neighborhoods of Los Angeles and the surrounding area (all labeled for our benefit). It's a view we don't often get to see (directly from the cockpit of the plane) of a city that's incredibly spread out.

That was a great video...too bad the beauty of the view was ruined by that pathetic song and music.

I don't ever remember landing that way.Anytime I visited the east coast,we just flew in over the LA City Hall and some nice parts of LA then we landed. We did take off over the ocean tho and turn around to head east.

your so right about that crappy rock music, and they have a nerve to slam rap..at least it has a beat...
Ryan Cessna Mar 22nd 2012 2:15PM
would have liked it better, if it was in "real time" not all accelerated, and with the real cockpit sounds, and radio calls not that 'song' BS
Barry Mar 22nd 2012 2:35PM
I have landed here many times but never had this view. Its thrilling and makes one realize how fast you are really going during a landing.Someone should make a video of landings at many of our great cities. I bet it would be a hit.

Barry, just go to You Tube and type in what you want to see like 'night landings at LAX" or any other city. They have night and day landings and take-offs--just type in what you want to see. They may not all be cockpit views, but some are really well done. If the link works, here's an example:

That was a fantastic video! Thank you for sharing a wonderful simulation of what a pilot sees during a night landing at LAX - superb viewing!!

so is this actual speed?
Sky Ranger Rick Mar 26th 2012 1:51PM
no it's at LEAST double, becomes real obvious when you look at the freeway traffic

Nice video but what was going on with the pilots would have been preferable to that one sentence poor excuse for vocal music. I'd have preferred the cockpit commentary to the horrible cacophony offered.

Sterile flight deck comes to mind.

Why ruin an interesting video with lousy music?
Adele H. Mar 22nd 2012 6:35PM
I always wonder how the heck they know where they are!!!

so much for the "no electronics below 10,000 feet rule"
May be it was an FAA approved camera?

Did you notice the Visual Approach Slope Indicators to the left of 24R? Yes, approach looked good at about a mile out. Then, it got a little too low and drug in.
Spyder Mar 24th 2012 8:15AM
Great video dude. Rock n' roll baby, it's here to stay!
BOB LOUIS Mar 24th 2012 11:54AM
FYI..on the left of the nose of the aircraft, thats a pitot static probe, used for "altitude and airspeed indications
