Regarding Papua, New Guinea - One of my friends and her husband were stationed in Port Moresby for a couple years, as recently as last year. Port Moresby, as mentioned above, certainly by no means, could be considered safe. Living out of town is not really feasible unless you were rich, with a huge estate and very loyal security force. And then only if you could get utilities out to your property. Yes, cannibalism was practiced by tribes in the far north of the island but supposedly this hasn't been practiced for quite some time. One might actually be safer there than among the thieves and thugs in Port Moresby! There seem to be no social mores in this place. It should be called Port Mores-less. But, the question is: where would you feel safest if WWIII broke out? Canada, Switzerland,Finland, New Zealand and Iceland, in no particular order would be my 1st considerations.
