Hotel renovations like the one that's being worked on at Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa Resort payoff even though the capital expenditure is painful on the front end. Once a property starts seeing the effect of being run down and negative reviews start building up on places like YELP or Travelocity it's very hard to reverse the trend. The bottom line is you have to see the deferred maintenance well ahead of guests writing negative reviews on websites and blogs and do something about it. The pay off is well worth the cost.
The Marriott Hotel in Albuquerque just 50 miles from popular Santa Fe, New Mexico completed a renovation about 6 months ago. I stayed there with my girlfriend in January overnight on a short get-a-away stay. It was so nice. The hotel is 30 years old and it needed to makeover. Everything was well done from the furniture to the thread count in the sheets. It was very well done.
