For information, the small orthodox christian shrines that are besides roads have been placed by family members of those who lost their lives in that place or by those who almost lost their lives in an accident there.
I'm glad most of the things you mentioned were positive, especially nowadays, when we Greeks feel terrible and very disappointed in our country.

Interesting! Latinos traditionally put crosses by the side of the road for the same reason. This practice had spread all over the U.S. and Canada and many Anglos are taking it up too.
Yes, I had an awesome time in Greece! I want to come back later this year to visit Monemvasia and hike the Mani peninsula.
