For best airfare deals, shop six weeks before your trip
A recent study of U.S. airline ticket transactions revealed that passengers get the best airfare deals if they make their purchase six weeks before their scheduled departure.On average, prices at the six-week mark are nearly 6% below the overall average fare, reported the study, run by Airlines Reporting Corp., a technology company that handles transactions between airlines and air travel agents. Airfares begin to rise dramatically one week before the flight, peaking on the departure date.
The study factored in four years of data from almost 144 million flight ticketing transactions with origins and destinations in the United States, making its findings pretty reputable. Does this also stand for trips going to a peak place? Height of Cherry Blossom season is early April. Should I wait until mid Feb. to get tickets or buy now? They only bloom a short time.
Actually thinking to bid a price to save but scared about the crazy travel I may take with a child.
Any info would be great.

Ok, I just tried this, my husband makes the same flight every 4 weeks. I looked at 6 weeks from today (he's not traveling then but...) it cost $87.00 more 6 weeks from today ($387.) than 4 weeks from today ($300.) ????

Six weeks from now is Spring Break. Everything cost more during Spring Break.

It's domestic only from Gulf Port (gpt) to Nashville...I understand spring break is coming up but honestly Nashville isn't a real big spring break destination....
