We have a mesh shopping tote for our dog's "suitcase." It holds: vet paperwork proving shots, collapsible water bowl, food, treats, toys, brush, paper towels, bandanas in a ziploc, spare collar and leash, extra plastic poop bags, 2 bottles of water (refill from tap). We stay at La Quinta hotels, pet-friendly and no additional fees for pets. We take his bed and a towel, he rests on the bed in the truck and uses it at night in the room. We have a plastic tray at home that holds his food and water bowls. We take the tray and bowls inside the hotel each night. If the trip is more than 3 days, we take his food vault.
