Photo of the day - Feeding the fish

Visitors to India know that cows are considered holy and not to be eaten, but in some parts of the southern state of Karnataka, you can cross fish off the menu too. The fish at the Sringeri temple on the banks of the Tunga River are also considered sacred and fishing is banned, though pilgrims and visitors can feed the fish puffed rice. As photographer and Flickr user PointingandShooting notes, all that food can make for some enormous fish!

Wow, those are some big fish! It's funny, for the amazing destinations I visit sometimes, like going up the California coastline on vacation and visiting soooo many interesting and famous places, and one of my best memories is pulling over in a roadside park and being mobbed by these little squirrel-creatures who climbed in my lap and begged for my granola bar.

Sringeri is famous for being the first of the four centres of Advaita philosophy founded by the 9th century saint, Adi Shankara. The presiding deity is Sharadamba, or Saraswati, the Goddess of learning and wisdom.
The town gets its name from the nearby hill, Rishyashringa-giri, believed to be the home of one to one of the chief priests of Lord Rama’s father, Dashratha.

Please no answers about how I shouldn't feed raw, I did my research on the topic prior to making a decision.
