Picton Monument Carmarthen Wales
The monument still stands on its commanding position at the top of Picton. Despite Picton's military prowess, there was another side to his character. In his day, he was known as a merchant of slaves and slaveowner. He was also known as a cruel torturer and the word 'Pictoning' derives from him.
Indeed local solicitors practicing at Carmarthen Crown Court have voiced their displeasure at a portrait of Sir Thomas Picton being on display in a court of law.
BTW Wales has been named Regional Destination of 2012 by the Lonely Planet Guide. All of its 800 odd mile coastline by next year will be connected and accessible by The Wales National Coastal Path. Many weird monuments await you.
