I used my Samsung Focus all around India this summer (swapped the AT&T sim for a AirTel after AT&T unlocked it). It shot great photos and videos and the 3G was pretty fast where available. I didn't use a cover with mine so it fit easily in my pocket. The Super AMOLED screen is awesome: scratch resistant and beautiful to look at. The battery life would barely last a day when in constant use, but the Mango update in October has boosted that. The app store is noticeably lacking for the trendiest apps (no WordsWithFriends or Instagram). But overall the Windows Mobile OS has the best looking and easiest to use user experience. Check it out.
