Brazilian police ram airplane to stop smugglers
Believe it or not, this isn't a leaked scene from the set of Lethal Weapon 5; it's just another day at the office for a few heroic members of the Brazilian Federal Police.
In what is sure to be the highlight of these officers' careers, a video uploaded to YouTube yesterday shows police in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil chasing down a group of smugglers attempting to take off in a small aircraft.
After gaining enough speed to catch up with the aircraft, the driver decides that the best course of action is to ram straight through the plane's wing, disabling the craft and allowing officers to arrest five suspects after a month-long investigation.
We're still wondering if there's a Federal Police policy for this sort of thing, or if the officers were just... winging it.

That's what a law enforcement officer should be, brave and not thinking about redtape policy.

brave officers, seems like a sciene from a movie but it was just incredibly courageous.

Wow!!......Bravo.....Bravo.....Bravo.......great job on the runway. However, running with a gun toward the smuggles without a helmet or bullet proof vest was either incredibly brave or very reckless....or both. In any event....Congratulations to Brazil's law enforcement.

Congratulations to Brazilian Federal Police.
It is getting better and better.
The problem is the lack of resources .
So the Officers are really very brave!!!

Commending these officers for their bravery and for doing what needs to be done to stop drug smugglers. Did you see this, Bammer?
jktejas Nov 2nd 2011 8:34PM
I will assume that for operationaol safety and effectiveness that the identity of the officers will not be publicized. But am I the only one who thinks that from the back the officer looks like Benecio Del Toro's Mexican cop character in "Traffic?"

Will that airplane come up for auction? I would like to bid on it!

Good job by the Brazilians. I hope none of the drug runners are American, or sure as shit there will be a bunch of two-bit lawyers on their way down there to "protect their clients' rights". In Brazil, they'll get what's coming to them... lots of years in a no nonsense prison: no ping pong tables, basketball courts or color TVs.

Awsome! Perhaps in the future as a reward for these officer's bravery, Brazilian drug enforcement vehicles should be equipped with heat seeking missles.

Dirty Harry alive and well could have been up in smoke if the 32 gallons of 100 low lead in the wing tanks had ignited. I think the tail would have been my choice for point of impact and would have disabled plane just as well with less risk to Dirt Harry.
